First Day Of Classes - Wednesday, September 6 

Welcome Back!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

          Welcome to a new school year at St. Leo Catholic Academy!  I was not here at the beginning of school last year, but I am thrilled to be here for opening day this year!  I know our Teachers and Staff are also happy to begin another year as your partners in education.  his will be a very successful year, because we will all work together as a team for our children.

         Covid is still present in our lives.  Please be assured we will take all necessary precautions to keep your children safe, and we will keep you informed of our protocols.

        We will follow the mandates of the NY City Department of Health, New York State, as well as the recommendations of the CDC.  As always, we encourage you to contact us if you have any questions.  Some of the Covid protocols we are following are listed later in this letter.

First Day of School :  School will reopen as follows:

Grades 1 through 8 will report on Wednesday, September 6 at 8:00 am, and Kindergarten will report on Wednesday, September 6 at 9:00 am.

Dismissal will be at 12 NOON (Grade 1, 2, 3 from the front door, and Grades K, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 from the side door on 49^th Avenue).   

 3K & Pre-K for All Orientation will be held on Wednesday, September 6 as follows:

3K      (3 year olds) – 1:00-2:00 pm

PKFA (4 year olds) – 2:00-3:00pm

The first day of class for 3K and PKFA will be Thursday, September 7.  The hours on September 7 will be 8:30am-1:00pm.  More detailed schedules for 3K (3-year olds) & PKFA (4-year olds) will be sent in a separate email.  

 1^st Day Line Up for Grades 1 through 8:  Students should line up in the Auditorium where they lined up last year.   New students should line up across the front of the stage, where they will be introduced to their teacher.

The first week of school for Grades K through-8:

Wednesday, September 6 --Kindergarten and Grades 1 through 8 will have a half day of school on Wednesday, September 6  with dismissal at 12 NOON.  Hours for Wednesday are 8:00am – 12 NOON for Grades 1-7 and 9:00am-Noon for Kindergarten.

Thursday, September 7 - Our full-day, regular schedule will begin for all Kindergarten through Grade 8 classes as follows:  

Grades 6, 7, 8                            8:00 am – 3:00 pm

Grades 3, 4, 5                            8:00 am – 2:55 pm

Kindergarten & Grades 1, 2       8:00 am – 2:50 pm

Friday, September 8 – Regular schedule continues

Grades 6, 7, 8                               8:00 am – 3:00 pm

Grades 3, 4, 5                               8:00 am – 2:55 pm

Kindergarten & Grades 1, 2          8:00 am – 2:50 pm

         Hot lunch service will begin on Thursday, September 7^th for children who ate hot lunch last year at St. Leo.  New children must bring their own lunches until further notice.  Breakfast service will also begin on Thursday, September 7^th only for those students who ate breakfast last year.  If you are interested in having your child in Kindergarten through Grade 8 have breakfast in school, please email Mrs. Corbella at [email protected]

          Hot lunch applications should be completed on line for all students, even if they are not going to eat hot lunch.  Monies for other programs are based on the parent applications for the hot lunch.  The website to apply to hot lunch, if you have not already done so, is:

All students in K through Grade 8 are expected to be in complete uniforms and school shoes from day one.

Covid protocols we are following: 

We will encourage frequent hand washing or hand sanitizing throughout the day, and especially before lunch or snack.  Students will be reminded not to touch their face.

Sanitizing stations are located throughout the building and will be checked and refilled regularly.

High-touch areas and restrooms will be disinfected regularly throughout the day.

We ask parents/guardians to keep your child home in the event of sniffling, coughing, low grade fever or not feeling well.

If your child tests positive for Covid, please let us know so we can set up a schedule for your child’s return to school.

Open School Night  for Grades 1- 8 will be in-person.  It will take place on Thursday, September 14 at 7:00pm.   Further information will be sent in another email.

¡Bienvenido!

Estimados padres y tutores,

          ¡Bienvenido a un nuevo año escolar en la Academia Católica St. Leo!  No estuve aquí al comienzo de la escuela el año pasado, ¡pero estoy encantado de estar aquí para el día de apertura este año!  Sé que nuestros maestros y personal también están felices de comenzar otro año como sus socios en la educación.  Sé que este será un año muy exitoso, porque todos trabajaremos juntos como un equipo para nuestros hijos.

         El Covid sigue presente en nuestras vidas.  Tenga la seguridad de que tomaremos todas las precauciones necesarias para mantener a sus hijos seguros, y lo mantendremos informado de nuestros protocolos.

        Seguiremos los mandatos del Departamento de Salud de la Ciudad de Nueva York, Estado de Nueva York, así como las recomendaciones de los CDC.  Como siempre, le animamos a ponerse en contacto con nosotros si tiene alguna pregunta.  Algunos de los protocolos Covid que estamos siguiendo se enumeran más adelante en esta carta.

Primer día de clases: La escuela volverá a abrir de la siguiente manera:

Los grados 1  a 8 informarán el miércoles 6 de septiembre a las 8:00 am, y Kindergarten informará el miércoles 6 de septiembre a las  9:00 am.

La salida será a las 12 del mediodía (Grado 1, 2, 3 desde la puerta principal, y Grados K, 4, 5, 6, 7 y 8 desde la puerta lateral en la Avenida 49).   

La orientación 3K & Pre-K for All se llevará a cabo el miércoles 6 de septiembre de la siguiente manera:

3K (3 años) – 1:00-2:00 pm

PKFA (4 años) – 2:00-3:00pm

El primer día de clase para 3K y PKFA será el jueves 7 de septiembre.  El horario del 7 de septiembre será de 8:30 a.m. a 1:00 p.m.  Los horarios más detallados para 3K  (niños de 3 años) y PKFA (niños de 4 años) se enviarán en un correo electrónico separado.  

Alineación del 1er día para los grados 1 a 8:  Los estudiantes deben alinearse en el auditorio donde se alinearon el año pasado.   Los nuevos estudiantes deben alinearse en la parte delantera del escenario, donde serán presentados a su maestro.

La primera semana de clases para los grados K a 8:

Miércoles, 6 de septiembre  - Kindergarten y los grados 1 a 8 tendrán medio día de clases el miércoles 6 de septiembre solo con salida a las 12 del mediodía.  El horario para el miércoles es de 8:00 a.m. a 12 del mediodía para los grados 1-7 y de 9:00 a.m. al mediodía para el jardín de infantes.

Jueves, 7 de septiembre - Nuestro horario regular de día completo comenzará para todas las clases de Kindergarten hasta el Grado 8 de la siguiente manera:  

Grados 6, 7, 8 8:00 am – 3:00 pm

Grados 3, 4, 5 8:00 am – 2:55 pm

Kindergarten y Grados 1, 2 8:00 am – 2:50 pm

Viernes, 8 de septiembre – El horario regular continúa

Grados 6, 7, 8 8:00 am – 3:00 pm

Grados 3, 4, 5 8:00 am – 2:55 pm

Kindergarten y Grados 1, 2 8:00 am – 2:50 pm

  El servicio de almuerzo caliente comenzará  el jueves 7 de septiembre para los niños que almorzaron caliente el año pasado en St. Leo.  Los nuevos niños deben traer sus propios almuerzos hasta nuevo aviso.  El servicio de desayuno también comenzará el jueves 7 de septiembre

Solo para aquellos estudiantes que desayunaron el año pasado.  Si está interesado en que su hijo desde el jardín de infantes hasta el grado 8 desayune en la escuela, envíe un correo electrónico a la Sra. Corbella a [email protected]

          Las solicitudes de almuerzo caliente deben completarse en línea para todos los estudiantes, incluso si no van a comer almuerzo caliente.  El dinero para otros programas se basa en las solicitudes de los padres para el almuerzo caliente.  El sitio web para aplicar al almuerzo caliente, si aún no lo ha hecho, es:

Se espera que todos los estudiantes de K a 8º grado vistan uniformes completos y zapatos escolares desde el primer día.

Protocolos Covid que estamos siguiendo: 

Alentaremos el lavado frecuente de manos o la desinfección de manos durante todo el día, y especialmente antes del almuerzo o la merienda.  Se les recordará a los estudiantes que no se toquen la cara.

Las estaciones de desinfección están ubicadas en todo el edificio y se revisarán y rellenarán regularmente.

Las áreas de alto contacto y los baños se desinfectarán regularmente durante todo el día.

Pedimos a los padres/tutores que mantengan a su hijo en casa en caso de estornudo, tos, fiebre baja o no sentirse bien.

Si su hijo da positivo por Covid, háganoslo saber para que podamos establecer un horario para el regreso de su hijo a la escuela.

La Noche de Escuela Abierta  para los grados 1-8 será en persona.  Tendrá lugar el jueves 14 de septiembre a las 7:00pm.   Se enviará más información en otro correo electrónico.
